To top that off it, the games remind me of New Years because half of the UVA fans are smashed by half-time because they’ve been hitting schnapps bottles in the bathroom.

Of course the likely rationale for this policy is so that all of the commercial signs placed by sponsors will not have to compete with fan produced signs.

A reasonable compromise is for signs to be placed around the upper or lower perimeter of the stadium, but not held so that they block the view of those behind. Many NCAA schools have been employing this policy against hand held signs in the stands and it has worked pretty well. If you have forked over a few hundred bucks to attend a good game, you should not have your view blocked by some guy holding a sign, trying to make a point or to insult the other side.

If you want to impress the other side with your schools spirit, rather than shouting epithets or making signs, organize group cheers and learn the school songs.
